General description
Src-like-adapter/SLAP1 protein, also known as SLAP, and encoded by the gene SLA/SLAP/SLAP1, is an adapter protein which negatively regulates T cell receptor signaling by inhibiting T cell antigen induced proliferation and works to control the positive selection and mitosis of T cells. SLAP1 also acts to connect signaling proteins such as ZAP70 with the T cell specific CBL ubiquitin ligase that plays a central role in degrading signaling proteins, and a critical role in limiting or initiating the T-cell specific- antigen-specific immunotolerance limits in T cells activation. Src-like-adapter/SLAP1 is localized to the cytoplasm and endosomes within cells. Src-like-adapter/SLAP1 is expressed in lung and fetal brain, and weakly expressed in heart, adult brain, placenta, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney and pancreas. Recent research suggest that SLAP1 may also play a role in different cancers and in modulation of receptor tyrosine kinase signaling in cancers apart from its conventional role in regulation of T cell receptor stability.
~38 kDa observed. The calculated molecular weight of this protein is 32 kDa; however, it may be observed at higher molecular weights due to known Post-translational modification sites.
